Sergey Nikitin (musician)

Sergey Yakovlevich Nikitin (Russian: Сергей Яковлевич Никитин, born March 8, 1944) is a prominent Soviet and Russian bard, composer, and biophysicist. He performs solo and as a duet together with his wife, Tatyana Nikitina in Russia, the former Soviet republics, and other countries with significant populations of Russian-speaking immigrants.

Sergey Nikitin was one of the first bards in Russia in the sixties who began putting other poets' lyrics to music, while attempting to translate the melody already ripe in the verse into musical phrases. His method is akin to the Intonational Opera by Mussorgsky in which musical lines originate from the natural speech intonation.

Sergey Nikitin is also known as a composer and performer of songs for children.
